for the North Beaches Artwalk

Hugh Verkerk
Email: hughv@att.net

A newcomer to the United States of America, Hugh has only recently begun to show his art work at local shows and galleries. Hugh paints only original art, and makes no copies of his work. Each work is an individual piece.“I love the bright and vibrant colors of acrylics. I love the texture of the paint on my brush or on my fingers. I love the fact that my art work is admired for their colors. I believe a painting should give it’s viewer a feeling of joy and delight.”

Daniel Goncalves, Photography

Ph: (727)489-2797

Webpage: http://www.danielgoncalves.com/

I enjoy the artistic as well as the technical aspects of photography. I also enjoy the interaction with people of different cultures through the view of my lens. The most important things to me are being able to show other people my vision, help convey a specific message, or just share the beauty that was caught in a moment that will never be re-lived. Photography has been, and always will be a great passion of mine. I hope to inspire others with the images I capture. (no picture available)

I love the endless variety of beads - colors, shapes, textures... Many of my designs are inspired by nature, especially gardens and the beach. Each piece is carefully handmade, and designed to be as fun to wear as it was to make.

Keith Holden
Website: http://www.intentionphotos.com/
Email: krh777@gmail.com

Shooting photography in digital infrared uncovers a divine beauty in nature not seen by the naked eye. It allows for a “different perspective,” something which we should all be open to to allow continued growth and positive change in our lives. I believe art is therapeutic and opens a channel within us, which can help set the stage for healing to occur. I set the intention with my photography that all who see it will feel love and inner peace, and that whatever healing you need begins to take place in your lives.

Conrad & Pat Jurgens, Pottery
Website: http://jurgenspottery.com/
Email: jurgens@comcast.net

We recently moved to Atlantic Beach, Florida from Berkeley Lake, Georgia, and operate “Jurgens Pottery” from our home based studio. We started showing our work in juried shows shortly after our move to Georgia. We specialize in wheel thrown functional stoneware pottery, but Pat also does hand building, wall hangings and jewelry. Conrad does “Raku” and other specialty firings. We have participated in shows throughout Atlanta and the Southeast, but we also sell directly from our home based studio by appointment.

Melanie Brown
Shoe House Studio
(904) 803- 6011
shoehousestudio@yahoo.com

When I was young and I wanted something, my mom encouraged me to try to make it myself first. Because of this, I am a painter, potter, glass artist, muralist, and jewelry maker. I am pretty sure I held a paint brush before a spoon. I love experimenting with clay, glass and color. I melt wine bottles into serving dishes, I make wine stoppers, pottery and necklaces from clay. I take something plain and lifeless and try to make it new again.

Lisa Paulger, Henna Artist
Phone: 904-270-2123
Email: bluemoonbazaar@hotmail.com

Henna is one of the oldest forms of body adornment that dates back many thousands of years. Henna paste is a natural dye made from the powdered leaves of the henna plant which grows in the Middle East and India. To create a design the paste is applied to the skin, allowed to dry and then removed. The initial henna art will be orange and then change to a dark brown within 24 hours. The design will last between 3 days to 2 weeks depending on the location and proper aftercare. I learned the art of mehandi 10 years ago and specialize in Moroccan style designs. Elizabeth Knapp - Acrylic, pencil & charcoal
(904)-501-9448 or (904)-613-3260
mslizthegreat@yahoo.com

As an artist I chose to create beautiful images. My style varies from realism to abstract. I do not limit myself because if you are open to other ideas, your work will flourish. I work in acrylic, pencil, and charcoal. When I begin a painting, no matter if it is a figure or if it an abstract, I always work towards a finished product. I find the simplest way to get to that finished product while still demonstrating a level of proficiency. I am fascinated with reflected light and color and how it translates onto whatever subject matter I am working on. I believe that a successful work of art must be beautiful and every time I begin a new work of art, I try to achieve a level of beauty.

Pauline Collings - watercolor
pcollingsart@yahoo.com

Empowerment/New Horizons Disability is usually seen as a negative, I choose to make it a positive. It is because of this that I was able to develop as an artist. A world that once was closed to me suddenly became wide open. As I develop thru my creations there seems to be no limit to what I may try. This inspiring new world is best conveyed to my audience via a bright & cheerful pallet. It doesnt matter what position I paint in-what matters is that I paint. Painting eases pain & opens ones mind. Indeed, I am empowered thru this wonderful medium.(no picture)

Sophia Stucki - impressionist, realist and fun
spuckigs@bellsouth.net 591-4017 247-0999
I've lived in Florida over 20 years.. I love to paint bright cheerful, colorful paintings. I think when you look at a painting it should make you smile inside and out.

Justin Donovan Hill - Abstract
http://www.justindonavan.net/ - 813-0043
As a student at Ohio State University and member of an avant-garde artist’s and musician’s co-op during the turbulent 1970’s, I was strongly influenced by the artistic philosophy of the Abstract Expressionists. It was at this time that I developed a belief that abstract art can serve as the essence of “balance” by emphasizing not only the finished painting, but also the act of creating the painting. For people that find themselves "out of balance" - particularly for those who can best describe their lives as chaotic, rushed and with dramatic dichotomies and extremes, abstract art may help to sort things out

Lynn Hoffman - jewelry

This makes a very affordable and mail-able gift.Contrast and color combinations have been the hallmark of my work, whether it is beaded jewelry, stained glass or mixed media collage.

Jessie Cook – Landscapes and Still Life in Oil
JessieFineArt@aol.com Phone: 386-447-9028 or 386-986-6926(cell)
My paintings are not charged with message, they may concern objects or places that I associate with particular people or events that have meaning for me, or they may be images of people, places, or things that are by happenstance both available and pleasing. Painting has long seemed a natural thing to attempt, a means of visually walking around an object, be it a vase, an apple, the folds of a napkin or the tree down the lane.

Sandy Walker – Jewelry Design
walkerartdept@gmail.com
I have always loved the raw materials of doing artwork: the paint, canvas, tissue paper, clay and even the dried paint from the artist’s palette. All these elements I draw from to design and innovate each piece of jewelry. The pieces often originate from the remnants of a canvas from a painting. Combined with special paint pieces or marbleized parchment, they are then embellished with beads and handmade polymer bindings.
